Kiiko’s MIRROR offers an introspective look at the multi-instrumentalist, in which listeners are also able to catch a glimpse of themselves. Released as part of his new EP Suffocate (released on 3rd October), the song is delightfully dark and filled to the brim with addictive hooks and melodies.
Everything is clever and well thought-out, from the synths that power the song to the Kiiko’s hauntingly beautiful vocals. Instantly, you can understand what an effort Kiiko has put in to allow the track to blossom into the magnificent thing that it’s become. The layered vocals give the song a slightly trippy vibe, you become almost infatuated with listening, enjoying every last second of Kiiko’s journey that you’ve had the privilege of being invited on.
The gritty lyrics “you’ll never be comfortable really accepting what’s under your shirt / I’ll maybe need a couple years to let myself get out of here”, are a testament to Kiiko’s writing. He captures exactly how you feel and manages to turn it into an unforgettable track. Paired alongside the tone shifts that are peppered throughout, you’re fully enveloped by the sheer emotion which this tune evokes.
At just over four minutes, MIRROR reflects back a promising future for the rising star. A defiant example of the alt-pop genre, you’re left excited about discovering where Kiiko is going to go next.
