With a fake tabloid article to promote the song, JADE’s new single only solidifies her gutsy steps as a solo artist. It gave fans an overview into what FUFN was all about, a celebrity couple on the rocks behind the scenes but pretending to press and the outside world that they’re absolutely fine. Amongst this was lots of teasers, one even being during her jaw dropping performance of Angel Of My Dreams at the BRIT Awards, where she also took home best British Pop Act. It’s safe to say JADE is paving the way for outspoken, confident women.

Her new single FUFN (F*ck You For Now) follows on from the powerful and sassy IT Girl, continuing the narrative of her being her own person, and not letting others overpower her. At its core, the track is JADE pushing for space from her partner and how the relationship is struggling. It’s electrifying with an explosive chorus that channels female rage and frustration into a pop song perfectly. Describing a situation that many can relate to, JADE and her co-writers RAYE and Dave Hamelin managed to encapsulate a balance of anger and honesty.

Her assertiveness shines the most during the chorus as she belts: “Back off out my face right now / Don’t you tell me to calm down / No more words just “f*ck you” for now”, pleading with her significant other to give her space in this moment of frustration. The bridge shows the battle she then has with herself as she repeats the line “Don’t walk away, just walk away”, as though she’s unsure of what she wants in this relationship, for them to leave or stay.

FUFN is out everywhere ‼️”

In an interview with Capital, JADE revealed the story behind the track which started with a dream that her partner, Jordan Stephens, had cheated on her, which then led to her and RAYE brainstorming the idea of when you’re arguing in a relationship, in that moment of anger you let it all out, but you know deep down that it’s not the end.

The accompanying music video amplifies her message even more so, starting with JADE in the bathroom before an event and her boyfriend ushering her to hurry up, before they step onto a red carpet together. As they pose for photos and walk into JADE’s movie premiere they’re clearly arguing whilst putting on a façade, and pretending to be happy to everyone else, with her partner even making digs at her. The whole room has exaggerated smiles, emphasising even more how sad and isolated JADE must feel. Her movie shows a replicated scene from Jennifers Body where JADE burns her tongue. We then see her use magical powers to make her partner float in the air – a representation of how her song is all about taking back the control from her partner.

JADE’s has definitely proved herself to be the IT Girl of pop with back to back incredible singles, sending fans into a frenzy as they eagerly await her debut album as a solo performer.
