Gracing the stage with R&B, soul, and 13 Grammy Awards, John Legend stepped out at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, joined by a nine-piece band, for his 20th anniversary tour, Get Lifted, in reference to his very first album.
Playing hits from his extensive career spanning 20 years of music, standout performances included Tonight (Best You Ever Had), Let’s Get Lifted, and fan favourite, All of Me; along with a range of covers from greats like Ye and JAY-Z.

Legend even brought with him a surprise guest – the one and only, Estelle – for a cover of her hit, American Boy.
Commanding the crowd at all times – whether sat behind his piano or swaggering across the stage – Legend’s natural confidence was established throughout the evening. Carefully planned lighting, and a healthy amount of haze and stage smoke, added a mysterious edge, and surprising visual stimuli, suitably paired with Legend’s classy black suit.
Fans were encouraged to get up and dance from the very start, with the stellar opening track, Let’s Get Lifted, which left everyone swaying to the beat; hands in the air. The atmosphere was celebratory, and fans were engaged and ready for the night ahead.

It was great to see Legend interacting with all members of his nine-piece band, only highlighting his love for music and passion for uplifting other talented artists. A perfect example was when he brought out Estelle, as he took a step back to allow her to have her solo moment.
John Legend’s show at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena was passionate, engaging, and joyful – a celebration of 20 years of music, enjoyed by fans of all ages, with a sophisticated, well-planned show, performed by a true masterclass musician.

The Get Lifted tour has now wrapped up in the UK, but John Legend continues to play venues across Europe and America.
