From Viral Star to Vocal Powerhouse: Alex Warren Live in Bristol [SWX Bristol, 23.04.25]

Review by Chloe Morris.

Alex Warren, originally a full-time content creator, has turned heads with his heartfelt lyrics as he climbs the UK charts and cements himself as a global success. His music blends pop and alternative influences, creating a sound that resonates deeply with fans of artists like Lewis Capaldi, Niall Horan, and Benson Boone.

As his Cheaper Than Therapy tour made a stop in Bristol last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending—and it did not disappoint.

Stepping inside the sold-out SWX venue, I was instantly met with a packed crowd, shoulder to shoulder, each person fixed in their chosen spot, eagerly awaiting the show. The stage setup gave off a homely feel, with potted plants, a red sofa, and a rug, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

The night kicked off with opening act, Michael Sanzone, a close friend of Alex. From the moment he stepped on stage, the room buzzed with an electric energy that lasted throughout his set, amplified by the crowd singing along to every word.

When the lights dimmed for a second time, a wave of screams erupted from the audience in anticipation of Warren’s arrival. Kicking off the set with Burning Down, it became immediately clear why this was a sold-out show. The audience knew every lyric without missing a beat, and Alex’s vocals were truly something special.

His deep tone, combined with his incredible lyricism, has an addictive quality that keeps listeners coming back for more. His ability to capture raw emotion is what makes so many people connect with his music—it’s real, relatable, and deeply moving.

Beyond his talent, Warren’s enthusiastic personality shone just as brightly as his vocals. Between songs, he took the time to chat with fans, read out signs they had made, and openly discussed topics like grief—a subject he speaks about candidly due to personal experience.

Yet, with his unique charm, he balanced these emotional moments with perfectly timed humour, effortlessly lightening the mood and keeping the audience engaged.

Wrapping up the night with his chart-topping hit Ordinary, Warren exceeded all expectations. As he continues to release hit after hit, there seems to be no limit to what this extraordinary musician can achieve. If you missed out on tickets for this tour, don’t worry—Alex will be returning to the UK in July for a one-night-only show. I strongly advise you to grab those tickets while you still can!

  • I’m Chloe (She/Her) an events and portrait photographer based in Bristol. I’ve always had a strong interest in photography much before choosing to study it at Falmouth University. I have vivid memories of setting up a makeshift studio in my garage, using bedsheets and rope with LED lights purchased off Amazon, getting my sister and friends to model for me. This sparked my creative flare and made me want to learn how to turn my passion into a full-time job. Looking forward, I have high aspirations for my work, I’m currently working towards becoming a full-time freelance photographer, shooting events and portraits, and showcasing to other female photographers, it’s possible to make it in this heavily male dominated industry, inspiring young women who are currently building their make shift studios with their bedsheets and rope.
