Oklahoma-based duo, The Ivy, partnered with emerging Pennsylvanian artist, Lyncs, to produce a melodic single as a prelude to their upcoming tour.
Don’t Fall Asleep To This is a blend of indie-pop brilliance of both acts. The Ivy’s Wyatt Clem (vocals/guitar) and Shawn Abhari (synth/bass) birthed the collaboration with Lyncs’ Jacqueline Hynes (vocals/multi-instrumentalist) during a writing trip in LA.
The song was released on 21st February.
The song is a heartfelt ode to the adversities and hopes that coincide in long-term relationships. The narrator describes being ‘stuck between a lock and a hard case‘ and ‘losing all my change in the wishing well‘, explaining how the relationship has its challenges, but they plead for patience and understanding, whilst they navigate their way back to love.
The dual narrative is told through the intimate lyrics and the dreamy, harmonious vocals of Clem and Hynes, and this is meshed beautifully with the song’s pulsating and uplifting beat.
Since the song has an overall optimistic feel, the listener is given a deep insight into the drive that the narrators have when keeping their relationship alive, despite how difficult it may be when they are “losing track of days”.
Lyncs describes working with The Ivy on the single as an ‘incredible experience’. They felt the upbeat feel of the song was the best match for both of their sounds. The Ivy said they are ‘thrilled’ with what they created together.
This release marks the start of The Ivy’s upcoming North American tour with Lyncs. It kicks off on the 25th of March, and the bands will be performing in major cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Brooklyn and Nashville, before concluding in San Antonio on the 23rd of April.
