Review by Tyler Whiting.

Blasting the roof off at The O2, in London, Twenty One Pilots delivered a musical masterclass at the closing night of their Clancy world tour.

Fans of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life, packed into every corner of the sold out 20,000 capacity arena.

Full of lore that has built up over the last 10 years, this closing night is reminiscent of new beginnings and revisiting the past. Taking to the stage with high jumps from pianos, smoke, and even fireworks, Twenty One Pilots certainly know how to make an entrance.

The band promise a storytelling-packed show, with a blend of music and stunning visual effects, and in every way, they go above and beyond to deliver it.

In fact, if there is one thing Twenty One Pilots are good at, it is keeping that intimate feeling small gigs offer, no matter the venue size.

No matter where you are, the pair regularly use a disappearing trick to pop up around the venue, from the back of the pit, to the top balcony levels, mixed with the pair walking through the crowd handing out high fives and fist-bumps all while still performing, only highlights the trust this band have with their fans.

Moving out to the smaller ‘B stages’, placed halfway back from the pit, on either side – once again showing the band using the full arena space to their advantage – we are played fan favourite, The Line, featuring the viral scream from Tyler Joseph at the end, which is met with loud cheering from the entire building. Then following on to Mulberry Street, for which the audience was split into 4 groups, and tasked with light up the arena with their phone torch, in time with the earworm tune.

In a moment of shock for lore-heavy fans, Tyler did not put on the ‘Clancy’ jacket when presented it by Josh Dun as the torchbearer, as he would usually. He then hid his eyes with the Clancy stole, at the start and throughout the song, Navigating, leaving us questioning what is next for the band, and what it means for their continuing story.

Touchingly, a tradition for the Clancy tour has been inviting a young fan up on stage, and tonight the lucky guest was Luke, who was invited to sing the last chorus of hit-track, Ride, with Tyler Joseph. You could see how much this meant not only to the young fans, but to the band, who get to celebrate the ways their music is continuing to inspire and encourage younger generations.

For the last night of the tour, the arena burst into thunderous applause and cheers for the band, rendering them speechless for over a minute, the wave of noise only levelling up each time they tried to move on. You could see how much this meant to the duo, as Tyler wiped away tears and thanked the audience.

Penultimate ending song, Stressed Out, which shot the band to viral fame, taken from their album Blurryface, celebrates its 10th anniversary on the 17th of May this year. The track is a huge fan favourite, and the entire arena sang along at the top of their lungs.

The band closed the evening with Trees in the heart of the pit – the drums were raised high and held up by the fans while confetti rained down.

It truly was an epic conclusion for the Clancy World Tour. A sense of accomplishment, gratefulness, and euphoria, was felt in every corner – a true pinnacle of ‘We are Twenty One Pilots and so are you’.
