The third single from Tom Grennan’s next album, Everywhere I Went Led Me To Where I Didn’t Want To Be, due this August, is pop anthem Boys Don’t Cry, which released on Friday the 14th of March.
The announcement made earlier this week that revealed Tom Grennan as the main act of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend on the 23rd of May, aligns with his latest single.
Boys Don’t Cry, a powerful pop anthem featuring a sultry 80s groove, and warm synth melodies that swirl around Tom’s powerful vocal delivery, is another masterpiece from a performer who has a talent for encapsulating weighty themes in euphoric sing-along hooks.
The song’s lyrics address mental health and men opening up about their emotions.

‘I’m an emotional person,’ Tom says. ‘In a lot of towns, especially where I come from, there’s still this stigma around emotion. Men are told they need to be about football, beer, and zero emotions. Boys Don’t Cry is the tonic to the negative ‘man up’ usage, a term used by us lads who find it hard to deal with other vulnerability and in fact our own. It’s the song that helped me go, ‘do you know what? I’m comfortable with being able to cry and process emotions.’‘
After the popularity of Higher and Shadowboxing, this new song illustrates Grennan’s growth as an artist. He has collaborated with producer Justin Tranter to create his highly anticipated 15-track album, which reportedly provides a ‘cutting-edge pop experience’, taking inspiration from legendary performers like Freddie Mercury and George Michael. Grennan reveals, “So much of the new music is uplifting — it makes you dance, makes you sing,” which reflects the upbeat and vivacious vibe of the singles released so far.

Having achieved numerous number ones and gold certifications with his other records, Grennan is set to achieve yet another victory with Boys Don’t Cry, out now everywhere.
