We sat down with Nathan and Dexter from The K’s, discussing TRNSMT, their new album Pretty on the Internet and their recent intimate show run.
KELSEY MCANDREW
I’m here with The K’s at TRNSMT 2025! How are you guys feeling first of all?!
NATHAN
Really, really good! Really excited. Just buzzing to get on stage, really! Can’t wait.
DEXTER
It’s our first time at TRNSMT as well, so I’ve heard lots about it. So, let’s see if it lives up to it, haha!
KELSEY MCANDREW
Can’t beat a Scottish crowd!
I’ve got some questions about your new album Pretty on the Internet. The countdown is on. It’s 11 days till the album.
How excited are you to put it out?
DEXTER
I keep checking that Spotify countdown every day.
NATHAN
I’m really really buzzing for it. I mean for the last one there had been such a long time coming, and this for this one to come around so soon afterwards has been a bit of a jarring thing… but in a good way! Like we were happy to have another album to put out and we’re buzzing with it. We really really love the album. We think it’s the best one we’ve done yet. It’s our best work, and it’s a bit different to the last one, which is what we set out to do, so yeah! Different, but still, you know, us.
KELSEY MCANDREW
What song are you most excited for the fans to hear that’s not out yet?
DEXTER
Good question. I don’t know! I want everyone to hear all of it. Because it’s like an album, it’s like a collective.
NATHAN
You want to listen to as a whole. I know what you mean! But if I had to pick, I’d say Rat Poison. It’s a bit of like one of those faster, thrashy ones, but in a good way though.
DEXTER
Mine would be Sold It.
NATHAN
Sold it, Own It. Yeah.
DEXTER
Yeah. It’s a little bit of a different vibe but it’s really cool. If you don’t mind me saying.
KELSEY MCANDREW
When did you first start writing the album?
NATHAN
So our main songwriter is Mr. Jamie Boyle, as I’m sure you know. And he doesn’t stop writing songs, do you know what I mean? So, he just turns up with like seven different things for us to sort of have a look through. Uh, we just whittle down until we’re sort of happy with it.
DEXTER
Like, right, album two, lads. The whiteboard in the room. There’s 50 odd songs!
NATHAN
‘Let’s whittle them down!’
DEXTER
‘Let’s play them all and see which ones we like!’
KELSEY MCANDREW
I love that! You did a few intimate shows last month. How was that to be so close to the fans?
DEXTER
I enjoy it. Yeah, really enjoy it. It’s a little bit more intimate. You can have a bit more of an informal chat with them whilst you’re playing and stuff. But it’s been a laugh actually! We’ve had a good laugh whilst we’ve been doing it.
NATHAN
I have to play very differently cause the drums can’t be too loud. So I have to play with like twiggy sticks and like dead (quiet), you know. So it’s a bit…
DEXTER
Everything that you don’t like!
NATHAN
I don’t like soft drums! I don’t like quiet. But because it’s so stripped back and so like off the cuff, it’s such a different thing to what we usually do that it ends up just being so much fun.
KELSEY MCANDREW
What song are you most looking forward to playing today?
DEXTER
Don’t know.
NATHAN
Glass Towns always for me. I love Glass Towns.
KELSEY MCANDREW
I will be in the crowd. You will see me! I’m might not be front row, but I will be jumping, I’ll be cheering, I’ll be dancing.
NATHAN
You better be! Yeah! We want everybody there. We want everybody there.
KELSEY MCANDREW
One more question: do you have any plans to come back to Scotland anytime soon?
NATHAN
Very soon.
DEXTER
We was literally talking about it this morning.
NATHAN
Don’t worry, don’t worry! We’ll be back soon.
