After chatting to Calum Bowie, The Rooks and The K’s about their TRNSMT experience, we managed to interview the one and only Tom Walker, here on Glasgow Green.

KELSEY MCANDREW

I’m here at TRNSMT. I’m here with Tom Walker! This is such a crazy experience. First off, how are you feeling being here at TRNSMT?

TOM WALKER

Good! I was a bit nervous to be honest. First time on the Main Stage but I really enjoyed it. I think you don’t know when you’re doing an early set if people are going to turn up, but it was pretty packed. So yeah!

KELSEY MCANDREW

I was in the crowd and everyone was singing along and dancing – it was pretty vibes! How does it feel going from King Tut’s to a main stage at a festival, especially here in Scotland?

TOM WALKER

Well I love King Tut’s, it’s one of my favourite venues ever. Any artists who are popping up, you should try and play King Tut’s – doing a gig there, like they always look after their artists, they’re just so nice – they’re just lovely, lovely people, had some amazing bands come through over the years. And honestly, I would love to do twenty nights in a row at King Tut’s one day and just do a residency there, I think that would be so cool, but yeah obviously playing the main stage at big festivals is obviously really really cool as well, and it’s a different thing cause I do really love the smaller intimate gigs because they just feel special, but then also you can’t really beat the six thousand people singing your song back to you – they’re two different things but they’re special in your own ways.

KELSEY MCANDREW

I’d be there at Tut’s! Totally get what you’re saying though.

What do you think your favourite part of Scottish crowds is then?

TOM WALKER

Aw, they’re just up for it, aren’t they?! Do you know what I mean? They’re just up for a laugh, and they like a good drink and that always makes the gigs interesting – sometimes for the better sometimes for the worst, haha!
