Belfast indie-rock outfit, Lonely Astronauts, have released their latest single, These Nights, and it is the ideal summertime soundtrack. Released only at the start of this month, we knew had to give it a spin.

The band sets the mood from the first note with their distinctive fusion of musical intensity and genuine emotion, capturing the essence of ephemeral moments and enduring connections.

The song immediately captivates you with its emotional honesty, beginning with the phrase, ‘Don’t tell me that it’s over just before it starts.’

These Nights, which is supported by soaring guitars, and a steady, catchy rhythm, is a meditation on love, connection, and about clinging to the important moments even in the face of uncertainty.

Recorded at Manor Park Studio with Neal Calderwood, the new single sees Lonely Astronauts embracing their melodic rock heritage while fusing uplifting riffs, emotional resonance, and unvarnished, sincere vocals.

The band’s refined, all-encompassing sound, which has garnered them endless accolades for its dreamy, sorrowful blend, still reflects the unique DIY ethos they’ve been developing since their foundation in 2018.

That human desire for time to slow down, and for nights that seem to go on forever, is encapsulated in the chorus, ‘Cause these nights were made for us / Cause these nights don’t have to end.’ It is the kind of repetition that lingers in your mind – straightforward but impactful, bringing back memories of late-night talks, spontaneous outings, and the brief moments that somehow make the most lasting impressions.

‘This single is our first release of the year, and we want it to make a statement,’ the band explained. ‘It all came together quite naturally since each of us contributed four distinct viewpoints on relationships, love, and life events, which combined to create the song in both predictable and surprising ways and give it its current form. Fundamentally, it’s about connection, honesty, and resilience.’

The song combines the band’s trademark rawness with a powerful, melodic drive – like something you might hear blaring from a vehicle radio on a late-night journey with the windows down and your heart open; it’s an intimate and anthemic sound.

If you haven’t heard Lonely Astronauts yet, it’s officially the perfect time to do so, since These Nights captures the kind of emotion that lasts long after the song ends.

You can stream These Nights right now, on all platforms.
