Fun, fabulous and thrilling, I had the delight of catching Amy Louise as she stopped off in Glasgow on her debut UK tour. It was everything I could have ever hoped for from a debut, made even more impressive by the fact Amy had organised it all herself.

Set in the intimate Poetry Club at SWG3, the night was full of chatter and laughter as we waited for the first support which came from the wonderful Emily Evans.

Evans danced around the stage, commanding the crowd, performing some of her original tracks, including the easy-going and fun More Than Friends, Less Than Lovers, and even throwing a few covers into the mix, most notably her cover of the ever so infectious Only You by Zara Larsson. The Linlithgow-born singer-songwriter definitely got the vibes going, and excelled in her job of getting us ready for Amy.

Then, as if the room wasn’t filled with enough warmth after Emily’s set, Ben Lauder got us roasting even despite his injury which meant he had to perform sitting down. Taking to the stage, crutches in hands, he quickly got us dancing with his phenomenal cover of Talk by Khalid and Disclosure, before performing a couple of his own songs including his latest single Miss You – a song with the power to let you dance your heartbreak away.

Making light of his current situation, where he’s now bound to crutches, he reassured the crowd that while he couldn’t dance fully, we certainly could! That was no issue for the crowd when he played his last song, a fantastic rendition of 365 by Gen-Z pop icon Charli XCX.

After Ben came off stage to wild applause, we were left in anticipation for the main attraction of the night. Luckily we didn’t have long to wait, as the lights dimmed and Amy came strutting from the back of the room, disco ball shining above her and a banging pre-gig playlist featuring the likes of Gaga and Swift blaring. Taking to the stage with whoops and cheers, she playfully announced that she was the “queen of heartbreak pop” before quickly delving into her set and proving those words right.

Encouraging the audience to get involved with her own choreography to Delusion, they delivered, happily dancing away to what Amy had to offer.

Bringing the tone down slightly, Amy played a couple of songs, both released and unreleased, including the bittersweet Best Friend that perfectly details the pain that comes from losing a friend accompanied by her trusty piano.

Before powering on into her next song, she took the opportunity to reflect on her childhood battles with leukaemia and how grateful she was that she was able to make her tour dreams come true, before thanking everyone for coming out and showing her love, which prompted loud whoops and cheers.

Soon, the energy was brought right back up with the packed venue singing the words to her hits including Games and Guard Down right back at her. Rocking the stage, she left us in a trance as she danced, making us completely forget that there was a world outside the venue. Then, just as it felt like the night was only beginning, we were on the last song which was met with jokey boos of disappointment but before that, it was time for the much-loved crowd pic, where phone torches and beaming smiles filled the frame.

As far as tours go, Amy absolutely blew the roof off and left me in no doubt that she’ll go extremely far in her chosen career, and it makes me excited to see where she’ll go next.
